It’s been a week that I returned from my three months of Scotland expedition . And there’s something, I would like to share.
This time my team didn’t fly. We opted for the Columbus way – Voyage. I couldn’t resist for it would help me discover the Loch Ness Monster mystery.
What’s the folk lore – A huge water animal is said to live in northern Scotland in a long, deep lake called Loch Ness. Many visitors to Loch Ness say they have seen the monster rising from the lake. Some have even photographed objects that might be part of it. The photographs seem to show a beat about nine meters long. It appears to have a long, snaky neck, a big barrel-shaped body, and flippers. Giant reptiles like this once swam in many seas; they are known as plesiosaurs. But all are thought to have died out 65 million years ago.
That’s what the facts say! My faith is a more deep rooted than my penchant for facts. The fear of unknown has evaporated with time and it was more like a call of duty to visit the place. The lake was a little distant from our expedition area. Greg, my team mate and I decided to take a boat along with a local fisher man to this place. We especially took one which had an echo sounder. An hour was spent on the boat listening to Enya.
We started returning to the shore, when suddenly the echo sounder showed something large that moving deep down in the lake. A silhouette that promised gigantic dimensions. The fishermen asked us to race ashore, and view it from there. We insisted on staying back, but we had to relent.
Once we reached the shore, we regretted coming back. With baited breath we waited for some form of life to erupt from the depths of water. Water currents reached heights that seemed terrifying. Each upscale in water, we thought was shielding the form of nature, a beast, that would perplex the scientists world over, but then the swell died down reaching the shore revealing nothing. Again and then again!
Greg and I said nothing to each other. We could not muster the courage to the string our feelings. We knew we had missed an opportunity, a date with the uncanny. An event so bizarre, a long wait that seemed to belittle the wait of any astronomer to spot for Hailey’s Comet.
We knew we had missed it.
