This is getting pretty sordid! The German bird just called and she seems to have lost it! Between her mumbling and the call dropping I could only pick some words…it seems that their bike conked off along the way after Rohtang and they took a lift in a tourist van (of course she didn’t get the license plate number of the van). They were bone tired and the girl claims to have slept off immediately while Mark decided to grab a snack. This is where it gets really nuts – Just before Leh something inexplicable happened, she claims that the driver switched off the engine and the car still kept moving at a steady pace…as if being pulled by a magnet!! This was near some hill just before Leh. She slept off thinking it was some sort of oxygen deprivation induced hallucination (not the only thing she was high on, I think). When she woke up, Mark was gone. The van driver was spooked as hell and wouldn’t answer any questions. The only good thing (if there’s any good in this) is that the Police have traced the driver. Looks like I’m going to have to head out to India and have a chat with him. In the meantime, Does anyone know about this place? This ‘magnetic hill where cars move on their own’! Please post any info you come across (as comments), and PRAY for my friend mark

Well as Abhishek told u this place is Known as Magnetic Hill nd is is located on the Leh-Kargil-Baltik national highway, about 30 km from Leh.
u have wrote dat even after switching off d engine.. car moved at a steady pace.. its true.. i dnt knw d reason but it happens. even if u stop d engine..just put the car in neutral and release the brakes. It will not slide down but move up at a speed of more than 20 km. some say.. its not a gravitational phenomena but just an optical illusion..
Regardin ur friend Mark, if Police doesn’t find him in next 24 hrs.. u do one thing, the Jat Regiment of Indian Army is also situated there.. U can get their help too. They know d area well nd take d help of local people.
Magnetic Hill is a gravity hill located near Leh in Ladakh, India. The hill is alleged to have magnetic properties strong enough to pull cars uphill and force passing aircraft to increase their altitude in order to escape magnetic interference; in reality, the effect is an optical illusion created by the gravity hill.
The hill is located on the Leh-Kargil-Batalik national highway, and is bordered by the Sindhu river. The Indian Army maintains a sikh Gurudwara(a sikh worship place) near the hill. Due to both the Gurudwara and the gravity hill, the area has become a popular sightseeing destination. So it won’t be hard for you to find. For further assistance, make contact with your embassy in India, as they can contact the Indian Army headquarters there for local assistance. Best of luck.
@ Kaushik, many thanks
